When scanning is executed with the setting of 25dpi/grayscale/Descreen on, the connection with the device is terminated.
If using the ICA driver,please do not scan with this settings.

Scanning cannot be performed in the other user environment by switching users. The error message is displayed.

1. Download the file. For the location where the file is saved, check the computer settings.
2. Double-click the downloaded file and mount it on the Disk Image.
3. Double-click the mounted Disk Image.
4. Double-click the packaged file in the folder. Installation starts automatically.

Been contemplating upgrading from Mavericks to El Capitan for some time but have needed to check out the compatibility of my existing applications and find suitable drivers for my peripheral devices.
One such device is an Epson flatbed scanner, used thus far on a Windows machine. Here's Epson's listing of the driver(s) required for OSX 10.11:
On that Windows machine, just one Epson Scan driver was required, but here two are mentioned, plus a special patch for El Capitan.
Anyone know what an ICA driver is? Is it an alternative for an Epson Scan driver, or does it need installing in addition to the ES driver?

Whenever I have scanning issues I always see a lot of suggestions to go use VueScan. I just want to add my $0.02 worth here by saying that I've never found VueScan to solve any scanning issues that I have run across. Ever. And I've had a lot. For instance, I currently I want to scan individual 35 MM slides on my Canon 9000F scanner which has a slide mount guide that allows multiple slides to be scanned. Image Capture allows me to specify both transparencies and slides but does not allow me to select multiple individual slides for scanning like I could with multiple prints (i.e. one scan grabs the prints in separate files). So I try VueScan as it's advertised as the end all of scanning apps. Same result that I get from the native app on macOS. This is just another in a long list of scanning issues where using a paid app like VueScan does not help. The good news is they allow this type of testing before purchase so that's a good thing.

Some earlier products are not supported by a full Epson scanner driver in the latest versions of OS X. However, basic scanning is available using Image Capture application (ICA) which is already built into your Macintosh operating system.

If you try to install older software released prior to El Capitan, you might receive the following error message:

If you continue to receive this message, you can also choose to override your security settings by disabling Gatekeeper. To do this, follow these steps:
Open System Preferences and then under the Personal section, click Security & Privacy .
Change setting from Mac App Store and identified developers to Anywhere , and then click Allow From Anywhere .
As a best practice, HP recommends that this setting be set to ‘Mac App Store and identified developers.
