Installation & Update FAQ

Does my license allow me to use FL Studio on both Windows and macOS - Yes. Yay!
Where do I get the installation file? - From the FL Studio downloads page. See the section above Easy installation or update above for more details.
Do FL Studio Fruity, Producer or Signature Bundle have different installers? - No, a single Installer is used for all versions. Your license decides what features are unlocked and so what version and plugins you have. However some plugins do need separate installers (DirectWave sound libraries and Slayer 2).
Do I need my USB drive or CD from the box? - No. Download the latest installer here. Enter your Image-Line account email and password on the About Panel to unlock FL Studio. You can also use older versions of FL Studio, downloaded from this page.
Can I install more than one version of FL Studio? - Yes:
- macOS - Rename the App (in the Applications folder, e.g. FL Studio to FL Studio 20) prior to installing the new version.
- Windows - Major revisions (i.e. 12 or 20) automatically install into a separate folders so you can have parallel installations. For minor revisions (i.e. 20.1 to 20.2) you need to manually set the installer to a different folder, otherwise 20.1 will be overwritten with 20.2.

Copying or migrating an existing FL Studio installation

This section has been provided to help users manage multiple installations and to locate data and files that fail to make the leap across to a new installation. Generally it isn't necessary to be rummaging around in the bowels of the installation folder during an update.

Migrate FL Studio 20, or higher, to a new machine
1. Download and Install FL Studio - The latest version of FL Studio is available here and install it.
2. Update your license - Use the 'About panel' registration system.
3. VST/AU Plugins - If you are using 3rd party plugins, install them on the new machine and copy associated library data in the process.
4. File settings - There are some search paths to match between the old and new installations:
  - Custom folders - Browser extra search folders. You will need to manually copy any 3rd party sample and plugin data from the old machine to the new machine. This data does not have to go into the same folder location on the new machine, it just needs to be visible to FL Studio by setting the locations in the Custom folders settings.
  - Custom VST/AU install locations - Plugin manager > Plugin search paths.
5. User data folder - . \Users\[your computer account]\Documents\Image-Line\. The FL Studio sub-folder should contain all your FL Studio related files (Audio recordings, Projects, Plugin database/favorites etc). Copy the entire . \Documents\Image-Line folder from the old to the new machine.
6. Open FL Studio and test your projects.
Migrate from FL Studio 11/12 to FL Studio 20 or higher

Your main task is to make sure the File Settings plus custom search paths from FL Studio 11/12 and FL Studio 20 match. You must also copy your data in the old FL Studio installation folder, as listed below, to the new User data folder location. FL Studio 20 marked the change where we stopped saving user data inside the FL Studio installation folder and used the 'User data folder'. This means, next time you update FL Studio the steps below won't be necessary as all the information will be in this new location, outside the FL Studio install.

About the User data folder: From FL Studio 12 (and lower) the Shared data folder has been renamed to User data folder. It now contains ALL your custom FL Studio files. The default location is: . \Users\[your computer account]\Documents\Image-Line\FL Studio. FL Studio creates the FL Studio sub-folder, so you don't need to add it yourself. You can change the location at any time from the File Settings. However, the paths listed below assume your 'User data folder' is set to: . \Users\[your computer account]\Documents\Image-Line\. If you have set it elsewhere, you will need to take this into account as you follow the instructions below.
1. Download and Install FL Studio - The latest version of FL Studio is available here. Install it. This will install parallel to FL Studio 12 or lower, not overwrite earlier versions. None of your existing data will be lost. However, you will need to tell FL Studio where your data and plugins are, as shown below:

Uninstalling FL Studio & Plugins
1. Remove your license (Windows only) - Download the file and follow the instructions here in the Knowledgebase to remove your registry keys.
2. Delete the installation files - As shown here. Follow the Windows or macOS Manual Uninstall / Clean Install steps.
3. Delete user data:. \Users\[your computer account]\Documents\Image-Line\WARNING! This is where your project data is stored. Deleting this deletes everything you have made in FL Studio, so remember to back it up if you want to keep this data.
Default File Locations (FL Studio 20 and above)

User data - All FL Studio user data is saved to a 'FL Studio' subfolder under . \Users\[your computer account]\Documents\Image-Line\FL Studio (this is the same for Windows and macOS). If you keep this folder backed up, you should never lose any project related data or settings ever again! If you want to move this data elsewhere, change the User data folder location in the File settings and manually copy all your data to the new location.
- Windows: '. \Documents\Image-Line\FL Studio\Projects' folder.
- macOS: '. \Documents\Image-Line\FL Studio\Projects' folder.
If you have updated from FL Studio 12 or lower, you will see an 'Old projects' folder in the Browser, this points to the legacy project location. We recommend moving your projects this new location!

Некоторые очень важные настройки расположены в меню Options > Audio:
- Звуковые настройки - для Windows одна из самых важных настроек состоит в выборе ASIO драйвера звуковой карты в меню Input/output. Попробуйте в первую очередь ASIO драйвер который устанавливается вместе с вашей звуковой картой. Или, если такого нет используйте Image-Line FL Studio ASIO. Какой бы драйвер вы не использовали, скачайте последнюю версию от производителя вашей звуковой карты.
- Увеличение длины звукового буфера - для Windows и macOS убедитесь, что длина буфера не менее 10 мс (441 сэмплов). Настройка длины буфера находится на странице звуковых настроек. Для Windows чтобы увидеть настройки, вам нужно нажать кнопку Show ASIO panel, если вы используете ASIO драйвер (как и должно быть!). Начните с 10 мс (441 сэмплов) продолжая добавлять по 5 мс (220 сэмплов), пока вы не заметите падение нагрузки на процессор. Наконец, ВСЕГДА держите ноутбук подключенным к источнику питания.
    - Ошибки VST библиотеки - убедитесь, что вы используете плагины, соответствующие для вашей версии FL Studio (32 или 64 бит). Некоторые люди переключаются в FL Studio 64 Bit, а их VST библиотека по-прежнему 32 бит. Если FL Studio не сможет найти 64-битные эквиваленты плагинов, то FL Studio будет подключать через мост 32-битные версии в режиме 64 бит.       - Параметры ASIO - попробуйте использовать опции Mix in buffer switch и Triple buffer. Примечание: Если это не поможет, перед продолжением обязательно выключите их.
      Получение низких значений длины буфера это не соревнование. Если вы счастливы при 20 или 30 мс, то это здорово. Помните, чем ниже значение длины буфера, тем выше нагрузка на процессор. Мы рекомендуем 10 мс (ASIO) в качестве хорошего минимального уровня, ниже этого большинство людей не испытывают повышение 'отзывчивости', а загрузка процессора быстро поднимается. Если вы хотите положить 10 мс в контекст, то задержка между нажатием клавиши на реальном фортепиано и ударом молотка по струнам составляет порядка 80 мс, и время, необходимое для того чтобы этот звук достиг ваших ушей это ещё 3 мс, есть над чем задуматься.

      One great thing about FL Studio is that it comes with a lifetime supply of free updates. Image-Line, the company that created FL Studio, periodically releases newer and more advanced versions, and having the latest and greatest is something we all strive for. In this tutorial, we’ll go over a walkthrough on how to update FL Studio. Let’s get started.
      
      Note: This will not work with a pirated version of the software! Please support the Image-Line team and purchase the software if you haven’t already.
      
      Your FL Studio Version Number
      
      You can see the version number you are downloading on the downloads page. You can also see what version you are currently running in the debugging log in FL Studio, along with the version that the current project was created under.
      1. Go to Options at the top left of the FL Studio user interface
      2. Click Debugging log
      3. Scroll down to the bottom
      You can use this information to make sure you’re always running the most recent version. Now, let’s actually do an update.
      
      Step 1: Go to the Image-Line Downloads Page
      
      Step 2: Choose your Operating System
      
      Just click which OS your computer runs on. For this example, we’ll be using a Windows PC. Your browser should begin to download the installer.
      
      Step 3: Run the .exe Installer File
      
      Make sure to close FL Studio before running the installer. Then, find the FL Studio update file in your downloads folder and open it. Now, the FL Studio Setup guide will open.
      
      Step 4: Choose Components
      
      Next, we need to choose what we want to update. I’m not a big fan of desktop icons, so that gets unchecked for me personally. Depending on your system architecture, you should choose either 32-bit or 64-bit for the FL plugin option. It’s also a good idea to migrate your search paths from the previous version, under Settings. Just hit the Next button when you’re all done.
      
      Step 5: Choose Install Locations
      
      Choose the file path where you first installed FL Studio. Hit Next.
      
      Step 6: Unlock the FL Studio Update
      
      First, we need to finish running the installer. Then, we need to enter our Image-Line account credentials into the About section in the new version of FL Studio.
      1. Open FL Studio
      2. At the top left toolbar click Help → About
      3. Enter your credentials in the box
      4. Click Unlock with account
      If you’re using an offline computer, you will need to unlock the updated version with a regkey file. You can download the regkey file from your Image-Line account, accessed through an online computer.
      1. Log into your Image-Line account
      2. Go to Unlock Products
      3. Expand the Alternative Unlock for FL Studio window
      4. Click the link to get your regkey file
      5. Transfer the regkey file to your offline computer
      6. Go to the FL Studio About menu
      7. Click unlock with file
      8. Choose the FL Studio regkey file
